The Creative Master Builder

Thomas Kröger is the architect of the new building at Schönhauser Allee 8.

Even as a child, Thomas Kröger wanted to become an architect. He drew houses in great detail, as it allowed him to dream his way into other worlds. After his studies, he gained valuable experience with the best in the industry, working with Norman Foster in London and Max Dudler in Berlin, among others. Today, Thomas Kröger is himself regarded as one of Germany's most renowned and innovative architects. He likes to describe his role like this: „It's not about me, it's always about the place.“ Without Thomas Kröger, many exciting places wouldn't exist … AchtBerlin is one of them and an outstanding example of his talent!

Old Becomes New

Andreas Hierholzer is the architect for the renovations of AchtBerlin's historic buildings.

Andreas Hierholzer studied architecture in Florence, Los Angeles, and Darmstadt, and has been working with his team on various projects in Berlin for around 25 years. He is above all a master of restoring listed heritage buildings, such as the legendary Villa Goldschmidt, which reflects German history from the early 19th century to reunification like almost no other house. At AchtBerlin, Hierholzer and his team are responsible for the restoration and renovation of the historic buildings at Schönhauser Allee 8. They were built by government master builder E. Hoepfner in 1911–1912 as a representative residential, commercial, and factory building. The side wings were destroyed during World War II.

Man Made Land's Landscape Architects

Founded in 2010 by Christian Bohne, Anna Lundquist, and Alexandre Mellier, „Man Made Land“ is dedicated to landscape architecture, urban planning, and urban design. Their constant goal is to create atmospherically rich, green solutions for the urban tension field. At AchtBerlin too, the aim is to create a sustainable identity of its own and a coexistence of nature and architecture: new green worlds are emerging on the rooftop terrace, in the courtyards, in front of the windows, and in the offices and hallways.

"In a densely built environment like Schönhauser Allee, we try to increase the share of urban greenery as much as possible, both outdoors and indoors," says Christian Bohne, describing the task.
